Mike Library Clerk Years At The Library: 7 Favorite Book: How To Lie With Statistics by Darrell Huff Currently Reading: The Seventh Floor by David McCloskey About Me: Meet The Staff When I first began working the front desk here at the Pataskala Public Library, I noticed when fellow employees had a work anniversary they’d get a note signed by all the staffers offering congratulations. And those anniversaries would be for 6 years, 8 years, 14 years, 20 years or even more. I remember thinking to myself, “I will never be here that long! No way.” In a few years I’ll be on to something else. The next chapter. As you can see from the facts listed above…I’ve now been here over 7 years! First, there was COVID. I wanted to help out during that time, so I stayed. Then we had the levy to build a new building. Next up, we faced the adventure of moving to the temporary site at the YMCA, followed by the even bigger adventure of the new building. Many of you reading this now are brand new to our library. Allow me to tell you what you can expect. And it is the real reason I’m still here. Each day a group of people pass through our doors willing to lend a hand, share some expertise, search for a solution, give a smile and just plain care. Not just the employees, but the patrons too. It’s really kind of amazing. Of course, nothing is perfect, but it’s pretty good. Much of my previous work journey was being a journalist and a news executive. When doing those jobs I got to witness some truly awful situations, but some really great ones too. Do you know what I get to witness every day at the library? It’s pretty cool and you can witness it too. Kindness.
