I retired from working as a medical lab technician after 43 years. It was soon apparent that I was not going to follow through with my retirement plans of learning a new language or playing guitar or painting the interior of my house. Then Covid happened and I helped my daughter with remote learning for her twins. They were just starting kindergarten. I learned how to attend two Zoom classrooms at a time. It was a busy year. Then I looked on the Pataskala Library home site and found they were looking for a library associate. I worked in my school libraries from middle school through high school. I love the atmosphere in libraries. I was hired and began my “retirement” job. There is a lot going on behind the scenes at your public libraries. Our library belongs to a consortium with several others in the Columbus Metropolitan area. We can’t purchase all the books and movies that our patrons request, but we can generally borrow them from other libraries, and we also share our materials. That translates into shipping material out and receiving material in. I enjoy working with the staff here and interacting with our patrons. I especially enjoy the kids that visit us. I love seeing children experience our library and all the families that make the library a family destination. We all owe a debt to Benjamin Franklin: Benjamin Franklin, age 24 in 1730, on founding the first public library: "We had left the alehouse, where we first met, and hired a room to hold our club in. I propos’d that we should all of us bring our books to that room, where they would not only be ready to consult in our conferences, but become a common benefit, each of us being at liberty to borrow such as he wish’d to read at home. This was accordingly done, and for some time contented us.” Edie Library Clerk Years At The Library: 4 Meet The Staff
