"Peter Lowe started as the Native Landscape Manager at The Dawes Arboretum in January of 2012, where he was responsible for developing sustainable initiatives and designs focused on Ohio native plants. In 2013 he transitioned into the role of Landscape Manager. His duties focused on the care and maintenance of the tree and shrub collections Arboretum-wide, aiding in the design and implementation of new garden spaces, educating on landscape practices and plant selection, as well as supervising seasonal landscape employees. He went on to lead the Landscape Operations Department, guiding the management of both collection and display areas by safety, utilization of horticultural best practices, plant health, the right plant for the right space, quality, and the capture of institutional knowledge. Today, he serves as the Senior Coordinator of Horticulture Education and Community Impact, where he uses his previous skills and experiences in the horticulture field to educate and impact current and future generations of land stewards. Peter was previously the Program Coordinator for The Ohio State University’s Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens, where he managed the Campus Beautification Project and was a Teaching Aide for the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science. His extensive experience with landscape design, construction, and maintenance within both residential and public gardens has allowed him to promote The Arboretum’s mission.
Peter resides in Columbus, Ohio with his wife Michelle, an elementary school teacher, and their daughter Ella. He is an avid sportsman and enjoys playing and watching soccer, swimming, biking and running. As an enthusiastic outdoorsman he loves camping, fishing, canoeing, and hiking with his family. He very much appreciates culture and regularly explores art museums, attends the theatre, and travels the globe."
