Makerspace

 

A Pataskala Public Library card that is in good standing is required to use the Makerspace. Must be 13 years or older to use Makerspace equipment. Users must complete a Makerspace User Agreement Form before use and attend a training session from a staff member. Users age 13-17 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the User Agreement on their behalf. Those under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. 

 

Reservations are strongly encouraged and can be booked up to three months in advance in person, by phone, or online. A 15-minute late grace period will be observed before reservations are canceled. Sessions may be booked in 2-hour intervals per day. Extra time may be granted by staff in additional 30-minute increments if no other patrons are waiting to use the Makerspace. The Makerspace may be used for no more than 3 hours total per day by an individual or group. 

 

The Makerspace closes 30 minutes before the Library closes. All work must be completed no later than 30 minutes before the Library closes. Projects cannot be left running or suspended while the Library is closed. The Library assumes no responsibility for projects that are unable to be completed within this time frame. Patrons are responsible for all use and material costs associated with incomplete projects. Patrons are responsible for cleaning up after use. 

 

There may be a charge for use of some Makerspace equipment. Users are responsible for paying for all use and material costs associated with use of the Makerspace. Failure to self-report material usage and pay for use of equipment and/or material will result in suspension of Makerspace use privileges. 

 

All projects must adhere to Library policies. Users of the Library’s Makerspace agree to respect any and all applicable copyright laws and licensing agreements. Furthermore, users agree not to use the Makerspace in violation of any local, state, or federal ordinances, regulations, or laws. Users may not use personal supplies with library equipment. Only materials provided by the library are permitted. 

 

The computer located in the Makerspace is intended for patrons utilizing the specialized software programs or equipment located in the Makerspace. The Library reserves the right to reassign patrons to other computers in the Library if they are not utilizing the Makerspace computer for its intended purpose. 

 

Behavior guidelines:

So that everyone may better enjoy their visit to the library, we ask each patron, regardless of age, to respect the rights of others by following these rules:

  • The following are not permitted inside the library:
  • Eating, drinking, smoking, weapons, or sleeping
  • Pets, except service animals
  • Loud or boisterous talking and conversation, including the use of threatening or profane, obscene, or abusive language, including racial, ethnic, or sexual orientation epithets
  • Rollerblades, skates, and skateboards
  • Begging, soliciting, and selling (unless authorized by library administrators)
  • Bathing and shaving in the restrooms
  • Taking photographs and/or recording videos of Library staff and/or patrons without their permission.
  • Shirts and shoes are required to be worn in the library.
  • Bicycles must be parked on the racks outside. We advise the use of a lock. The library is not responsible for lost or stolen personal property.
  • Smoking, skateboarding, skating, and rollerblading are not permitted on library property.
  • Destruction of library materials and property is prohibited.
  • Persons who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs or pose a health risk to others are not permitted in the library and will be asked to leave.
  • Willful damage, attempted theft, or vandalism of library materials can result in a block on the patron’s library account, banning the patron from the library and/or cause for prosecution.
  • The library reserves the right to expel any person whose behavior and/or clothing is determined to be disruptive, inappropriate to the library environment, or prevents the use of the library by other users.
  • Children under age 8 must be supervised by a parent or responsible companion. All children must be picked up before closing time.
  • Library staff has been instructed to call the police department, if necessary, for assistance in any situation that appears to threaten the safety of a library patron or staff member.
